Revised Reopening Plan
Since the beginning of all school closures in mid-March ACA has worked to design plans that ensure the safety of our students, staff, and all families upon return. The shared goal of all ACA educators, administrators, Board members, staff and the families is reopening ACA and returning the students to their classrooms in order to ensure that we are meeting their physical, academic, social, and emotional needs. Just like the American Academy of Pediatrics and the CDC, ACA educators know that the most ideal place for our students to learn is in the classroom. However, the severity of the current health crisis within Arizona has forced us to take a closer look at our reopening plan.
For ACA to reopen for in person learning on campus we feel that the COVID-19 pandemic needs to be under better control. Even though there has been some research showing that young students may be at lower risk for infection, the educators and support staff who make learning possible are at risk, as are students with medical conditions. Those members of our community need more reassurance that we have the resources that are needed to stop the virus from spreading widely throughout our community.
With the recent spike in Arizona’s infection rate, and after a great deal of consideration, ACA administration and the Board have determined that school will begin with all students participating in distance learning. We have decided to take our reopening plan a quarter at a time, reviewing the guidelines set by health officials and Arizona’s current COVID-19 status when making our decisions. With the current situation in Arizona only worsening by the day we feel the safest thing to do for our community is to open school with all students in distance learning classrooms for the 1st quarter. The students will follow a schedule that reflects what their schedule on campus would look like.
In the coming weeks we will be sending a schedule outlining when families can come pick up school books and electronic devices. All 6th-12th grade students have been assigned a device and we have a limited supply of additional loaner devices that will be distributed on a needs basis. Technology contracts need to be completed prior to receiving a device. Please make sure that you have purchased your books prior to the scheduled pick up day. You can purchase the textbook package through the website. You will be able to receive the Math and ELA books on campus on your scheduled day.
