ACA will conduct our in class Spelling Bee the week of November 25th, 2019. Please encourage students to study for the spelling bee.
Below are the word lists and regulations:
- 2020 Great Words Great Works List by Level
- 2019-2020 School Spelling Bee Study List - Difficulty One Bee
- 2019-2020 School Spelling Bee Study List - Difficulty Two Bee
- 2019-2020 School Spelling Bee Study List - Difficulty Three Bee
- 2020 Rules for Local Spelling Bee
Students could start with the list from One Bee and continue with the next if he/she is ready. Lower grade student could focus on One Bee only since we are just introducing and exposing them to the competition. Three top spellers will be selected from each class to participate in the school level competition held on December 4th, 2019.
Information from Scripps:
This year, the 2020 School Spelling Bee Study List is divided into three levels of difficulty: One Bee, Two Bee and Three Bee.
Unlike in years past when we had a specific study list for each grade level, we encourage you to start students with the words at their skill level. In general, we recommend:
One Bee for lower elementary students (grades 1 through 3)
Two Bee for upper elementary students (grades 4 through 6)
Three Bee for middle school students (grades 7 and 8).
Once spellers are comfortable with the words at their starting difficulty level, they are ready to tackle the rest of the 2020 School Spelling Bee Study List, which includes all three difficulty levels.
Why Scripps Made This Change?
They adopted this method of leveling the study list to allow school more freedom in selecting the right difficulty level for our students. Not being limited to grade level gives both teachers and students more flexibility to focus on the words that are right for them.
