Dear Parents and Guardians, In April of this year, we will be piloting ACA’s new Highly Capable (gifted) Program identification process. If you have ever considered having your child’s aptitudes assessed for potential giftedness, this could be an opportunity for you. The pilot process will function as follows: 1. February 19 – March 16 a. Learn more about the characteristics of gifted students by visiting this Informational Flyer on the ACA website. b. Think carefully about whether your child exhibits a preponderance of the characteristics of giftedness. c. If you feel your child has a large number of these characteristics, please fill out the Referral Form and return it to the school’s office. 2. March 19 – March 30 a. ACA staff will review applications and invite the first ten eligible students to participate in the assessment process. b. If your child is selected to participate in the pilot, you will be contacted for written permission to have your child assessed and you will be charged the assessment fee of $55.00. 3. April 2 – April 13 a. CogAT Assessments Administered: i. The CogAT provides a snapshot of your child’s abilities in the areas of verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal functioning. ii. This is just one piece of the data that school staff will review as a component of multiple criteria used to determine if further assessment is necessary in planning for your child’s educational program. b. We are excited to announce that the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony will be next Thursday, March 1st at 1:00 pm during Bonus Hour in the Gym. Please be advised, the Faculty Council is still actively working for the finalization of the potential candidates for the Honor Societies at ACA. All potential candidates will be informed of the final decision via formal notification. Both Selected and Non-Selected students will be provided the letters by the close of school on Monday, February 26, 2018. Students will be instructed not to open the letters until they get home with their parents or guardians. We look forward to your presence at this very important event

The in-class Quran competition will take place during the week of March 26th-March 30th. The top three (3) girls and the top three (3) boys from each class will move on to the school competition which will occur on April 12th. If you would like your child to participate in the in-class competition, please make sure to complete the registration form at the front desk by this Friday, March 23rd.
