Assalamu Alaykum;
Welcome to
6th and 7th grade English
7th, 8th and 9th grade Social Studies
This is going to be a creative and productive year for all of us, with many diverse and challenging activities and events. My classroom motto is “ The more I know, the more I am..” and I strive to use multiple methods of teaching to involve all learning styles and interest levels. The focus of all the lessons that I teach is Critical Thinking skills, since it is not enough to simply memorize information. Our students have the benefits of individualized instruction, and my goal is that each one of them will leave my class having a deeper understanding of what they have just learned and know how to use that awareness in positive and productive ways.
I was born in South Africa and immigrated to the United States with my husband 25 years ago. I have a Masters degree in English and Social Studies, with a second Masters degree in Education. I am an example of the benefits of completing a concurrent degree and feel honored to be teaching at a school where the High School offers our students this incredible advantage. Although I have taught for many years, I can truly say that my experience at ACA has been the highlight. Our students come from homes where the parents are making sacrifices to give their children the best education possible, and I know that every member of the faculty strives to exceed that expectation.
I am a parent too, and I would like all parents to feel free to email me personally at janesmuts@gmail.com or call me at the school if they have questions or concerns. Your interest in what happens at school is vital to the success of your children’s education. I encourage you to support our high standards of conduct and student responsibility, because when parents and teachers work together, the students feel a sense of security and structure.
Wa Salaam
